- Population Shift - when a large group of people move from one area to another
- Political Power Shift - when one party gains the majority power position after an election
- Gerrymandering - drawing the district lines in the state for political reasons
- Cracking - gerrymandering where the minority party is split into as many districts as possible
- Packing - gerrymandering where the minority party is placed in as few districts as possible
- Constituent - person represented by an elected official

- Apportionment - States with the largest percentage of the population get the most seats in the House

- Oligarchy - A state run by a small group of people who have complete control.
- Monarchy - A state ruled by a monarch, who is born to the position by hereditary right.
- Dictatorship - A ruler who has absolute or despotic control and power over the people of the state.
